The Bible NEVER discounts that there were lots of gods. In fact it mentions many throughout the Old Testament and even Jesus mentions 'Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?' in the New Testament. What it does say though is that many of the people on this earth have gone after other gods but there is only ONE God who is over all the earth. There is only ONE God who is real, all the others are statues, idols etc. And many people were sacrificed to them to appease them or to stay on their good side.
(I am not saying there is only one Christian denomination but only ONE God) There are many denominations which Worship this ONE God.
The only kind of sacrifices that the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob asked of were animals, birds, foods, vows, wine, oil & prayer, never people. They were all His to begin with so he could ask for them anytime. The ONLY person who was ever sacrificed for humankind was JESUS. He was God come down from heaven and lived on this earth as a man for 30+ years. Immanuel = God is with us. After he was sacrificed/crucified, he was resurrected on the third day and returned to His home in heaven where He lives forever. He sent his spirit to live within the hearts of those who will believe in Him so they will witness of Him.
